Who am I?
My husband Rodger and I bought our small farm in Cowichan Station in 1985 - a dream come true. I love the Cowichan Valley, the rural life, and the people. It has been a fabulous place to raise our children and grow food.
My work with the HUB and the Cowichan Station Area Association, and the friendships that grew from that work, led me to put my skills and energy into working for the larger region.
My background is in biology, ecology, and administration. I worked for the BC government for several years before Rodger and I founded a management consultant business. Some of our most rewarding work was in supporting the Cowichan Watershed Board, of which I am a huge fan!
In 2014, and again in 2018, I was honoured to become the Director for Electoral Area E. I've learned lots in eight years including the importance of:
-
using the skills and expertise offered by community leaders and volunteers
-
asking uncomfortable questions to avoid complacency
-
accounting for the real costs of services to stabilize taxes
-
building meaningful relationships with First Nations
-
listening and learning about all sides of issues
-
adapting to the reality of a pandemic.
My mission is to work with the Board and Area E constituents to build a community with opportunities for everyone to prosper, a community that leads in wise development, a community that prioritizes environmental protection and is supported by a dynamic CVRD Board that works hard with each other and with the entire region in mind. I seek community input and do my best to make the process as inclusive as possible. Will you join me?
